How this works in practice
At the counter
At checkout, the register prompts staff to look up a customer by phone number or scan a loyalty card/QR code, then applies earned rewards automatically instead of requiring a manual discount code. New customers are enrolled in a few taps without leaving the sale screen.
Hardware compatibility
Loyalty and marketing tools run through the same Clover, PAX, or compatible countertop and handheld devices used for payment β no separate loyalty terminal is required. Physical loyalty cards can use barcode or QR formats read by the device's built-in or attached scanner.
Connectivity and offline behavior
Customer lookups and point balances rely on an active internet connection; if connectivity drops, most devices can still complete the sale and reconcile loyalty accrual once back online, though redemption during an outage may need to wait.
Staffing and training
Front-of-house staff need to know how to look up or enroll a customer and how to explain the program in one sentence; campaign creation (email/SMS content, offer rules) is typically handled by an owner or manager through a web dashboard, not at the register.
Migrating your existing setup
If you already run a punch-card or spreadsheet loyalty program, we help you decide what's portable β points balances from a prior digital platform vary by whether that platform supports export; paper punch cards generally cannot be imported and are phased out at a cutover date you choose.
Who this fits
Repeat-visit businesses β restaurants, salons, retail, and coffee/quick-service counters β where getting a customer to come back a second and third time matters more than one-time promotional discounts.
