How settlement timing normally works, and what changes
Under standard settlement, a batch closed today is typically deposited into your business bank account one to two business days later, following the acquiring bank's processing and funding schedule. Rapid Deposits reviews whether your account and equipment qualify for a faster path β often same-day for batches closed before a cutoff time, or in some cases near real-time payout on supported terminals β instead of waiting for the standard multi-day cycle.
The mechanism differs by device and program: some terminals push completed transactions through a real-time payout rail as they're authorized, while others aggregate the day's batch and release it same-day once closed. Which option applies depends on your specific terminal model, your acquiring bank's supported rails, and whether your account has cleared the underwriting review for accelerated funding.
Which businesses benefit most from faster funding
Businesses with tight weekly cash cycles β payroll due before receivables clear, inventory that needs restocking within days of a sales spike, or seasonal businesses managing uneven cash flow β tend to see the most practical benefit from same-day access. A food truck or mobile vendor paying suppliers in cash the same week, a salon covering payroll between pay periods, or a seasonal retailer restocking during a holiday rush are typical examples where a one-to-two day acceleration changes what's possible operationally.
It matters less for businesses with ample cash reserves or predictable, low-frequency billing where standard settlement timing was never a constraint. For those merchants, the standard deposit schedule is usually sufficient and there's no operational reason to add the eligibility review.
What determines eligibility and what to check before opting in
Eligibility is reviewed based on your processing history (established, consistent volume is typically favored over a brand-new account), your terminal or POS model since real-time funding is only available on supported devices, your industry risk profile, and your bank's capability to support accelerated funding rails. New merchants without an established processing history may need to build a track record before qualifying.
Before opting in, confirm whether the program has a per-batch limit, whether it applies to all transaction types or only certain tenders, and how weekends or bank holidays affect timing β same-day programs typically still depend on banking-day cutoffs, so a Friday-evening batch may not behave the same as a Tuesday-morning one.
Standard settlement vs. Rapid Deposits
| Factor | Standard settlement | Rapid Deposits (where eligible) |
|---|---|---|
| Typical timing | 1β2 business days after batch close | Same-day or near real-time on supported terminals |
| Terminal requirement | Any supported terminal or gateway | Select Clover and Valor models |
| Eligibility basis | Standard underwriting approval | Processing history, bank capability, terminal support |
| Weekend/holiday impact | Delays batch by banking days | Still subject to banking-day cutoffs |
| Best fit | Predictable, low-frequency billing | Tight weekly cash cycles, payroll timing, inventory turnover |
Frequently asked questions
What are Rapid Deposits?
Rapid Deposits is an accelerated funding review that may allow eligible merchants to receive transaction proceeds faster than standard settlement timing, including same-day or near real-time options on select terminals where available.
How fast can I receive my funds?
Timing depends on eligibility, processing history, bank capability and program terms. Some merchants may qualify for same-day or near real-time payout, subject to banking-day cutoffs.
Which terminals support faster funding?
Real-time or same-day funding is reviewed on select Clover (Flex, Mini, Station Solo, Station Duo) and Valor (VL100, VL110, VL300, VL500) terminals. Final eligibility is confirmed during underwriting.
Which businesses qualify for Rapid Deposits?
Eligibility depends on processing history, business type, terminal model and bank capability. New merchants may need to establish a processing history before qualifying.
Does a weekend or holiday affect same-day funding?
Yes. Accelerated funding programs are still tied to banking-day cutoffs, so a batch closed on a weekend or holiday typically settles on the next banking day rather than instantly.
Is there a limit to how much can be funded same-day?
Some programs carry per-batch or daily limits set by the acquiring bank. Any applicable limits are disclosed before the program is enabled on your account.
Can I switch back to standard settlement?
Yes. If the accelerated program doesn't fit your operations, your account can be reverted to standard settlement timing.
Does Rapid Deposits work with my current gateway?
Compatibility depends on your specific terminal and processor setup. We confirm compatibility during the eligibility review before recommending the program.
